The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

1.0

Teenage girl in a small town in the south learns she's part fey and has to rescue her brother who has been replaced by a changeling. I made it about sixty pages in due to the main character having no discernible personality, the writing having no particular vivacity. Everything felt like it was by route, including the tradition of putting the letter Y in words that ought not to have it and leaving it out of words that should have a Y. It's possible that I'm just completely uninterested in teenage girls, but I rather wish she had had some interest or ambition beyond wanting to get her drivers licence and a vague desire to date one of the jocks. I remember having grand ambitions when I was 16.
