My Commander by Alanea Alder
Did not finish book.
1.0
The synopsis for this book was delightful. Unfortunately that’s where my enjoyment ended. The premise sounded hilarious—meddling matriarchs and reluctant sons—but other than 2 throw away sentences in the prologue, I never got to experience that portion of the setup. I felt like I was missing something??
I read five chapters and it wasn’t for me. The storytelling felt very juvenile imo—fun, but so fast that it skimmed past necessary character development and relevant world building, with over exaggerated emphasis on small irrelevant details. Frankly, it read like a hastily written Quizilla writing prompt from my fanfic days.
If you liked this book, I’m happy for you. The story premise had a lot of potential, and maybe it got better after chapter 5, but I DNFed and moved on.
