This is one of those books I read with a furrowed brow, wondering the entire time what was going on and if I was missing something. It's way too long for sure - once we learn more about the world and the mysteries, the second half drags. I was sort of invested in the characters, but everything felt unreal and confusing that made it hard to be that attached. I kept feeling like I was supposed to find it profound, but I just didn't get the meaning out of it.
Moderate: Animal death, Body horror, Confinement, Cursing, Death, Gore, Homophobia, Sexual content, Violence, Grief, Death of parent, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, and Injury/Injury detail
