when i first read this in middle school, i really liked it. my reading tastes were still developing at the time and i didn’t really grasp the full philosophy within this book. but rereading this now as an adult, i’ve come to realize that a lot of the required readings we had in middle and high school promoted hyper-individualism, like in Anthem. we were required to read these books during our formative years and i believe that can explain why so many people are the way they are now as adults: individualistic and selfish.

overall, it was a meh book and i really did not like that the male character in the story did everything while the female character was so submissive and obeyed him. e.g. he is the one who named her, and that was an ick.
