The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler

Philip Marlowe is a slick private dick who cruises around Los Angeles corralling sharp-teethed naked girls for the men who exploit and protect them. This book is all about descriptions. The settings, and the women! Pulp noir at its finest. You don't read Chandler because you want to like the characters. You read it cuz you want to go on a ride into a time and place you probably don't want to stay too long, racist and misogynistic 1930s Los Angeles.

Honestly, read this book for the descriptions of the women.
