The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
4.0
A solid read, I had one massive gripe though. The flashbacks to the MC's life when she was young, were completely pointless. Not only that, I feel they actively harmed her character, they take away from the strength she's grown into. I know they are supposedly meant to show her growth arc, but she's flawed enough in "present" time to show a complete, believable character. Unbelievable when authors think the characters past is necessary to show an arc, when they've written a perfectly formed character without that crutch lol. Also, the chemistry between her husband and her in the past was somehow completely lost compared to the present day warm display. It would have been a 5 star book without the flashbacks, is what I'm trying to say.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the moments of sheer awe, disgust and joy this book brought me. A memorable read for sure.
