The Nice House on the Lake: The Deluxe Edition by James Tynion IV
5.0
A re-read as NICE HOUSE BY THE SEA starts.
Tynion has become one of my favorite writers in general and no one is doing horror like him in comics currently. And overall, next to Mike Flanagan among the best.
The end of the world is a topic that comes up constantly nowadays but there's an energy to Nice House on the Lake that feeds off the anxieties of the modern world.
Locked down in safety while the world burns somewhere out there, we find ourselves trapped in a glass, glossy prison of someone else's machinations and the discovery that we have little to no control over the survival of our community, planet, home, and species. These are big themes told so well through horror, great art, great atmosphere, and uncomfortable mysteries.
