A Home Far Away by Teki Yatsuda
Did not finish book. Stopped at 62%.
I almost dnfed two times before I finally did. This is trauma porn. The art is beautiful, but the story is disjointed and verges on absurd. I got the feeling this was only going to get worse and I noped out before I was as traumatized as the two MCs.
What a collection of cliched trauma triggers. It's all trigger, no filler. It's clearly meant to be tragic, which is admittedly not my usual jam. However, that art drew me in, and the high average rating gave me hope that it was worth the pain, but no. It was just unrelentingly bleak. We didn't get enough of them being together or any real glimpses of fleeting moments of happiness or an approximation thereof to even make this work as a story or worth it for the reader.
I guess I'm happy for those who enjoyed their cathartic sobfest, but it felt cheap and hollow to me.
