People of the Wolf by W. Michael Gear

3.5

+Rich world-building and I genuinely liked getting to explore the cultures and ways of life of these characters.
+An interesting conflict that kept me engaged.
+Quite liked some of the characters, like Dancing Fox, Heron and Broken Branch.
+Some intimidating villains.
-The characters, while interesting enough, are not the most well-written ones you'll ever find. They're usually pretty obviously good or bad with not a lot of nuance to them.
-This book absolutely has an issue with how it treats its female characters. It's not that there aren't strong female characters among them (there are), but the constant sexism against them SUCKS. Worse yet, the topic of rape is handled downright poorly and disrespectfully (it's treated WAY too lightly and like it's a very common occurrence by the characters).

I did enjoy reading this book but the last aspect really brought it down for me.
