I expected a thriller but this is solid sci-fi. Lots of theory, observation, maths and even coding. Slightly dated, especially when it comes to female characters - lex was a stereotype of a helpless and annoying little girl, and Ellie did next to nothing for most of the book except sit by a man's bedside.
