The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

5.0

Wow! All I can say is wow. Jeff Zentner has delivered an amazing story with lovable characters and after reading [b:Goodbye Days|30649795|Goodbye Days|Jeff Zentner|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1476384938s/30649795.jpg|51192309], I imagined it would be hard to beat. I loved this book so much it's hard to formulate words about it.

The biggest thing was the characters. Lydia was my favorite by far. I loved her uniqueness, and also her badass I don't care what you think air. She reminds me of the ideal person I would love to be. I loved how she didn't let somebody like Dill hold her back from going to college, and even though she was probably super stressed about everything that was going on in her life, she found A way to be with her friends. I admire her. And then there is Travis. I felt like Travis was a little too much on the nerd stereotype side. Jeff Zentner seemed to be trying too hard to create a nerdy character that in the end, he created an interesting mix of plain out weird and lovingly nerdy. The biggest thing that bugged me about him is that he seemed so unpredictably boring. It almost felt like He was thrown in for the dramatic end plot twist. I didn't hate him though. Dill was also on the annoying side. He was feeling way too sorry for himself to even do anything, and I felt that it kind of limited his character. I still like him though, he had a lot of dimensions and was written pretty well. It was almost a weak tempt at writing depression.

I also liked the plot. The plot is such a big thing when it comes to books, so it can be one of the trickiest things to write. It can either turn out super good, super bad or just okay. The plot of The Serpent King was very well done. It moved along very smoothly, and even when it felt like it was drying up, it picked up speed. I loved the story and all of its unexpected twists and turns.

Overall, this book was an amazingly well written work of fiction. I loved almost everything about it. I would recommend The Serpent King to anyone and everyone. Also, was I the only one who shipped Dill and Travis?
