Delayed Penalty by Teagan Hunter
3.0
I was really excited to read Delayed Penalty after reading Face Off (that was 5 stars for me). I wanted to get Hayes story because he was a bit of a grump, playboy and mystery to me.
I am a sucker for the single dad trope so I jumped on this book when I saw it. However, this one just didn’t quite excite me like the first 2 books in the series did.
I will start with what I love about this story. I absolutely loved Flora. Flora is who made this book with and you will fall in love with her and want to take her under your wings just like Hayes and Quinn did. Flora was easy to love with her comments and watching her come out of her shell. Despite who she had as a father and how she was raised she was so polite, thankful and a happy child and you just want to hug her.
Hayes I did enjoy Hayes a lot! I loved how he was trying with Flora and was always so proud when he would see different sides of her slowly showing. I also of course loved his relationship with his teammates.
Quinn….our girl is a mess. She is messy and flighty and while her moments made me laugh there were times where I wish she would grow up a bit or stand up for herself. I did, however, adore her relationship with Flora. She and Flora had an instant connection and it was adorable to watch Flora flourish with Quinn around.
Here is where I was a bit disappointed with this book and you can stop reading here to not get spoilers.
I did not feel any romance with this book. There were no dates between Quinn and Hayes (Adam) ; it was purely a physical relationship. Yes they spent Thanksgiving together, or went to the zoo etc but all that was family involved or Flora was with them. They never really got one on one time together (unless it was in the bedroom). I despised Quinn’s family and how they treated her. No one ever stood up for Quinn (not her parents or herself) but I did enjoy when Hayes put her brother in his place though I wanted to see him put the whole family in their place I will accept what he did. I really wanted to love this story but there wasn’t much relationship growth or romance so that is where my 3 stars come from.
I am so excited though to see the rest of the gang get their HEA and can’t wait for more texts and banter.
Thank you Teagan and Valentine for the arc of this book.
