Really loved the first 60% of this novel. It's dark and tense and creepy and does an excellent job of putting us in hell with the crew. Unfortunately it suffers from the same problem as a lot of horror novels, where once we find out what's actually going on some of the magic disappears. It's not bad by any measure, and I still enjoyed it, but the back end really struggles to live up to the promise of the first half.
