Lauren listens to an Inspector Gamache novel and rates it 5 stars? Groundbreaking. I’m slowly nearing the most recent releases, at which point I’ll have to wait forever for the next book like normal people, womp womp. This installment was all about wills and what we leave behind. In addition to physical bequests, we can pass down stories, traumas, and prejudices to future generations, sometimes without intent or even realization. The classic and cheeky Philip Larkin poem “This Be The Verse” of course came to mind, and I was delighted to see it pop up in the text itself. The Quebec weather is often a character itself in Penny’s novels, and it was eerily fascinating to read about the deadly power of snow. Not something I’m used to in California of course!
