Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Ibram X. Kendi, Jason Reynolds
5.0
This should be required reading. It’s honestly baffling to think this entire book based on history is filled with things we never learn about in history class. Have you heard of black Wall Street? Or W.E.B Du Bois? Or Rosewood? I learned about the Civil Rights Movement as if it was a peaceful passage into a newer age where racism no longer existed and everyone was equal. In reality, this couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s astonishing that we call 1968 the Summer of Love, when it was filled with protests, riots, lynchings, and extreme police brutality.
I implore all of you to read this, or something similar, that really gives you an idea of how slavery and racism have had their grip on our society for hundreds of years, and how white supremacy has continued to oppress Black people even today. Learn your history, so we can grow from it; learn your history so we do better.
Knowledge is power, and education is the first step in the journey of anti-racism.
