I always love this author's books. I don't know if it's because of the stories, the characters, or her style, but I always enjoy reading them. Having said that, I have to say that this story lacks the depth that characterizes her previous works. Or rather, I feel that both the main characters and their relationship lack depth, or perhaps need a little more development. I mean, they spend more time in Elijah's room than anywhere else on the island, even though it's mentioned that they go out for a hike etc, we see little of them doing it, instead they spend most of the time locked up maintaining relationships. And it's not that there's anything wrong with that, but it doesn't allow us to get to know or connect with them better. It's also the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Now, this is not to say that I didn't enjoy this book. I did, a lot. Elijah is someone who loves his work, but not everything that comes with being a famous actor/star. Especially the lack of freedom he feels to being himself. In fact he feels he NEEDS to hide the truth of who he really is. Despite having a "boyfriend" he keeps it a secret, until said boyfriend ends up being an ex who exposes him by revealing his sexuality. Advised by his manager, he goes to the resort to stay away from the spotlight for a while, until the rumors are silenced or another scandal overshadows his. There, in an inauspicious meeting, he meets Atlas, one of the people who maintain and clean the place, who immediately dislikes Elijah, believing him to be another selfish actor and nothing more.

But a few days later and after crossing paths a couple more times, they end up talking, and Atlas begins to realize that under that layer of a spoiled brat, there is someone vulnerable and afraid to live life freely. Something totally different from Atlas' lifestyle, who is much more laid back and likes to enjoy all things in life.

But even though they come from different backstories, they find they have more in common than they thought, and fall hard for each other, not to mention the chemistry between them is enough to spark every time they're around each other. And its this love they feel what finally gives Elijah the courage to be himself and to Atlas to love another person.

I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
