I very much wanted to like this. It has all the things I enjoy most. Enemies to lovers. A secret school for people to be paired up with vampires. Not whitewashed. What’s not to love? Well, the main character, Kidan. We did not click. Like at all. There wasn’t a single character that I could plant my flag. It was stupid choices after stupid choices. I was always on the verge of DNF’ing until the last like 10%. Then we got to see more of Susenyos, the vampires story and he was infinitely more interesting and layered than Kidan.
I had already decided that if there was a second book I was not going to read it. But then the end got just interesting enough that now it’s a maybe. I didn’t like ACOTAR after the first book. I would’ve stopped right there if my friend hadn’t compelled me to keep reading. So, now book two is a maybe.
