The best way to describe The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones is: comfort read. The fantasy-heist novel is an all-around fun read, full of lovable and interesting characters, well-developed world-building, and familiar tropes. The idea of different diviners was interesting, and I really liked the unique ways characters used their powers. The use of Welsh mythology and names was consistent and interesting to read, though I am not knowledgeable enough to know if it was at all accurate. While the novel didn't do anything spectacular or new with the genre and tropes at hand, and had quite the predictable plot, it was still a really enjoyable read. A solid 4 star for sure.
Graphic: Confinement, Death, Violence, Blood, and Fire/Fire injury
Moderate: Torture, Grief, Stalking, Abandonment, Alcohol, War, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Sexism, Sexual violence, and Suicide
