I guess my favorite genre lately has been “stories that will hurt me but I’m going to like it the whole time.” This novella is gorgeous. The prose flow beautifully, the characters are extremely compelling, and the universe in which they exist is mind-bending. The format of this novella is unusual as it switches between letters sent between Red and Blue and short chapters that give each letter context. This format is extremely effective for me and my enjoyment/attachment to the characters. At time, it felt like I was reading poetry. This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I implore you to give This Is How You Lose the Time War a chance!

I don’t annotate or highlight in books, but there are so many lines that I’m going to go back and underline because they’re just so beautiful and gut-wrenching. I can’t wait to read more from both of these authors!
