The Girl I Was by Jeneva Rose

"Eighteen-year-old me only cared about herself and the present. She had no regard for me, well, the me I am now... Things would have been different if she would have taken responsibility for her own life because now it's mine and let me tell you, it sucks."

A woman in her thirties gets the opportunity to go back and correct her 18-year-old self from making all the mistakes that lead to an unsatisfactory life.

This is an enemies to lovers rom-com, if the enemy is you in college and you have to figure out how to learn to love not only her but your present-day self as well.

I cannot overstate how much I loved this book! It hit me in the generational sweet spot and had me laughing hysterically, save for the few moments when I was moved enough to cry.

Alexis (35) and Lexi (18) do not get along. And they are so mean to each other! Lexi thinks Alexis has a big butt and won't let her eat anything good. "Don't come crying to me when your mom jeans split."

Alexis thinks Lexi wears too much makeup and makes her start going to class. "You're a drunk party girl who will lead me down a path of destruction."

But who is the one that really screwed up their life? Was it Lexi's choices or the woman Alexis allows herself to grow into?

Rose's ability to pinpoint every criticism your younger self would inflict on your older self, and vice versa, is unbelievably brilliant. And the way she highlights the differences in the ethos, attitudes, and technology between 2002 to 2019 was fantastic.

I literally bullied my college bestie into buying this book because I just have to laugh with her about it, and what jackasses we were back in the day. And how we wish we'd made different choices too. Oh to have the wisdom of foresight...

Although the end wrapped up a little too sweet for me, I will definitely be reading as much Rose as I can get my hands on because goodness gracious, I can't remember ever having laughed this much while reading...
