White Tears / Brown Scars: How White Feminism Betrays Women of Color by Ruby Hamad

challenging informative inspiring medium-paced

5.0

Wow. Talk about a wake up call. Ruby Hamad talks about how white women have historically weaponized their own stigma to participate in the oppression of people of color, from white women falsely accusing black men of rape to breaking down in tears and accusing women of color of "attacking" them when they are confronted with their own racism. Ruby Hamad covers both historical and present day instances of white women progressing their own rights at the expense of women of color. This is both a scathing indictment and an inspiring call to action for white women to change their ways to help end the oppression of both themselves and women of color.
