A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

5.0

“I will be at your back until I cross the threshold to Valhalla, Born-in-Fire, whether you want me there or not.”
“You are mine, Born-in-Fire. Even if only the two of us know it.”

I am a huge Norse mythology fan. I even did a thesis for graduate school which focused on Norse myth and legend. So this book was something that I was highly looking forward to because it was all the things I adored. And let me just tell you.... it did not disappoint. I adored this book. I cannot tell you anything bad about it other than I have to wait for book two. Freya was instantly a character I fell in love with. She just seemed so ferocious and turns out... she is. I really enjoyed the magic element of children of the gods. I loved the ways the author didn't try to reinvent narrative but stuck to myths pretty well.
Freya as it turns out is pretty freaking incredible. Everyone wants something from her. Everyone that is expect Bjorn. The two are quickly forced together and we get some top of the line banter, tension, and all the things you could desire. I enjoyed the vast number of characters and all the different motivations. I loved most how many strong women characters the book depicted. Freya quickly tries to find ways to control elements of her own fate and I loved it. Her biggest weakness is that she cares too much for those who don't care for her. I think that is why it's so easy to fall in love with the idea of her and Bjorn... he is the only one who wants nothing from her.
I have to tell you this book is super engaging. You think oh sure I can put this down for a bit, but you can't. You have to consume it. It's just all those things you would want in a romantasy. I loved that the book managed to add so many shocking moments. It kept me on the edge of my seat. The end blew me away. I was honestly just unable to believe that was the end. I wanted so much more. So basically if you haven't gathered it yet... I loved this book. I will forever praise this book. If you haven't read it yet... go read it NOW.
