I finally just read Shadow of the Wind a few months ago. I know. I know. Mistakes were made. Books 2-4 are already on my TBR, but when this book was offered, I didn't hesitate to take it. Zafon's ability to tell a story, an emotional, heartbreaking, somewhat supernatural, but yet still hopeful is amazing. Every word is carefully chosen to make the stories play out like movies in your mind.

I normally am a hit or miss when it comes to short stories, but I can honestly say I enjoyed all but one of these. I told myself to read it slow. To read a couple stories and then go do something else. Three hours later...

If you have not read at least the first book in the series-- The Shadow of the Wind-- I highly recommend that first and foremost. But I also highly recommending snagging this book very soon after.
