The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
3.0
I went into this book having already seen the Netflix series, and knowing that it differed from the book quite a bit, but I was still excited to finally read this classic. I did enjoy reading it although it was not at all what I expected. For something that's considered a classic horror novel, I didn't find this book to be all that scary. At only 182 pages, I think there were maybe 3 scenes that were actually creepy, and it didn't really pick up until halfway through the book. I enjoyed the writing style but overall the story felt like it was mostly dialogue between the characters and Eleanor's thoughts, rather than being about the events in a haunted house.
