The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager

3.0

Read it all in one sitting because the central mystery grabbed me instantly. I did really entire the way the past and present mirrored and blended with each other though - the narrative structure of the book is so intriguing and I loved the reveal that the new girls had gone missing too. It's hard for thrillers solutions to live up to the intrigue they set out with and this one didn't for me. I ended up being disappointed by the ending and I wanted more time to explore the final twist rather than just one or two pages. What has Vivian been doing since? How did she excape? I want to know more!!

I felt the way it wrapped up with everyone being cushy and apologetic to be really unnerving and unrealistic and I was deeply underwhelmed by the Horrible Truth that the narrator had been keeping to herself and hinting towards the entire novel. And I didn't understand how Chet was to know that the new girls would leave and go to explore the hobbit house that night.
