The Fury of the Gods by John Gwynne

5.0

I would like to thank NetGalley and Orbit for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

The Fury of the Gods was absolutely stunning! Action-packed from beginning to end, my heart was in my throat from page 1 and it did not let up! When i got down to the last quarter of this book i'm almost sure i did not take a breath for whole povs. I just could not tear my eyes away.

Everyone was so real to me and the stakes so high that just making eye contact with the world yielded such dire consequences. So my paranoia for my favourites was at an all time high and made a fist of tension in my chest for days that's only now eased off a bit. There's still an ache there for the ones who were lost and for the ones who were thrust into the path of warring gods because of their grief. I don't think another epic has ever moved me to tears as often as this saga did.

What i've just read is special and these characters will stay with me for a very very long time with the utmost clarity, buoyed by an emotional connection that Gwynne worked with masterclass.

Orka was perfection and her vengeance gave me life. And every time Breca opened his mouth his big feelings filled me with pride and choked me up a few times in the best way. Varg was my baby and i found it mesmerizing to learn and grow alongside him as he slotted into the Bloodsworn and became kin and pack in more ways than blood.

Elvar was an exercise in patience, which i failed many many times. But now i can reread this series in peace because knowing all the moving pieces lessens the grip in my chest, and has me yearning for all the things i must have missed in my enthusiastic devouring of this series at the speed of light.

This was magnificent writing, and one of the most satisfying and immersive epic fantasy reads i have ever experienced in all my life. Excited to read Gwynne's other epics which i am certain will be just as brilliant, and looking forward to everything else yet to come from this astounding and awe-inspiring master of the craft.
