The Familiars by Stacey Halls
5.0
Another brilliant book finished. This book has been on my shelves for two years right at the beginning of the pandemic, and only now it has been calling to me. I am so glad it did.
The Familiars is a wonderful work of fiction based around real people living through the assizes of the 1612 Pendle witch trials focusing specifically on Fleetwood Shuttleworth who desperately wants to survive her fourth pregnancy. After briefly meeting Alice Gray, she enlists her as a midwife. But as the events of the Pendle witch hunt grows ever larger, Alice becomes embroiled and Fleetwood goes on a mission to save Alice, her baby and herself.
I have so much more to say but right now I just need to sit back, bring myself into the present and ruminate on it.
