The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
5.0
UPDATED Feb 11, 2019 - 5 stars
I have fully changed my opinion on this book. Things were so much clearer on this go around, but still confusing enough that I'm itching to get my hands on the next book. Good confusing this time though. The second person still bothered me, but I didn't hate it like I did the first time I read this book. I still can't believe how much I loved it this time around. I fully understand the hype now, and I'm 100% on board with it. I have SO MANY thoughts, and I reeaallly need the next book right now.
3.5/5 stars
This rating may change, not entirely sure. I'm so torn. I loved the concept and all of the plot, but that second person. It ruined me. I would've liked Essun's story much better if it was in third person. I predicted some of the things that happened, especially with regards to how the three characters tied in together, but there were many things I didn't see coming.
Another thing bringing down my rating is the lack of explanation regarding certain things. I was still confused by the end of the book, which is not something I enjoy. I know there's an appendix for terms and one for history, but a touch more explanation within the book would've been nice.
I'll definitely continue with the series to see how it ends, but it'll never be one of my favourites.
