Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson
4.25
This is the first Brandon Sanderson book I have ever read, and I really enjoyed every page. For someone who is so highly spoken of, I expected nothing but a good book, and a GOOD book I got. Yes, there were certain parts of the story and descriptions that I didn’t particularly like, but everyone feels that way about any book they read. The relationship between Painter and Yumi was adorable, as it was refreshing to see a relationship written so naturally. I loved the evident film inspiration from "Your Name" by Makoto Shinkai and the overall Asian influences. My favourite part was the first fight between the nightmares, where a paintbrush appears in Painter's hand. The description of that whole scene was utterly brilliant! Not to mention, the cover illustration of this novel is SO PRETTY. One of the reasons I actually bought the book. :) I’ll definitely be reading the other secret project books by Sanderson. Even if I read them out of order, which I believe I might do for the fun of it. <3
