The Magician's Heart by J.P. Jackson
3.0
Honestly, I'm on the fence about The Magician's Heart.
The story follows Allan, who learns he has magical abilities after an attempted assault by his POS ex-boyfriend activates his magic while on a camping trip with a pair of their mutual friends. Unfortunately for Allan, coming into his powers accidentally kills everyone, and upsets the Fae whose island he and his friends had been trespassing on, who want retribution for the murders.
Enter Patrick, the area's most powerful water witch, who finds himself in charge of cleaning up the mess Allan's newfound magic made. On top of cleaning up a trio of dead bodies, Patrick strikes up a deal with the Fae to keep the peace, and must teach Allan about his powers in the limited time provided until the Fae bargain must be met.
As if that wasn't enough, Allan's magic is not wanting to cooperate, which has him and Patrick looking for a loophole that will get Allan out of the Fae deal, all while exploring the chemistry and ever growing feelings between them as the clock runs down on their time together.
I loved the world building and water magic, and thought the story had a lot of potential, but never fully connected with Allan or Patrick. To be quite honest, I was more interested in Patrick's pets Kaos and Argus, and his life as water witch, than I was with Allan and all his drama lol
Still a solid story, even if it wasn't for me!
