Orangen sind nicht die einzige Frucht by Jeanette Winterson, Brigitte Walitzek
2.0
First of all, I didn't completely finish the book. I never really felt a connection to any of the characters and was quite uninterested where they all would end up - to be honest, the whole concept of the story in the way it was written felt very much like one of those books that I had to read and analyse for school.
Personally, the most irritating parts were the fairytale inserts, I found it hard to place them. The general writing style pulled me out of the story quite a few times so I could barely read more than ten or twenty pages at once.
There was quite a bit of humour, which I liked, and I enjoyed the overall idea of exploring homosexuality in a highly religious environment. I'm a bit sad that I disliked this book so much that I decided to put it aside, because so many other people found a lot of joy and wisdom in it - however, it just wasn't for me and that's fine, too.
