The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
5.0
WOW. Got me in the last 30 minutes. This was WILD. And frankly, I can’t really say much in terms of analysis without giving it away. But WOW. Like, holy shit, wow. I am either way off my game on spotting clues in mystery stories, or that was the greatest twist I have read in a very long time!
This was my introduction to Alex Michaelides, as I happened to see that this book was immediately available on Libby. I needed something quick, so this was a cold choice. But, boy, what a choice! The pacing was excellent, the VOICE…was just superb. I’m still just sitting here in shock. What an oddly satisfying ending.
Literally my only complaint about this book was the slight transparency on the author’s part, from a craft perspective. It was like he just really, REALLY wanted you to know he was Greek, knew all about Greek culture, wanted to flex it…and while pieces of that WERE germane to the story, it was just slightly heavy-handed for my taste. But I’d say everything else made this easy to overlook.
Can’t wait to read something else by this author! WOW.
RATING RUNDOWN:
Character (5/5)
Plot & Pacing (5/5)
Setting & Surroundings (4/5)
Dialogue & Diction (5/5)
Craft & Voice (4/5)
Reading Experience (5/5)
Final Rating:
4.7/5
