The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer

5.0

Holy WOW! This book kind of blew me away! So much more is packed into this book than what meets the eye.

On the surface, Ambrose is sent on a mission to rescue his sister who is on one of Saturn's moons and was presumed dead until an SOS signal is recieved from her ship. But Ambrose isn't alone. Representing some of the more traditional values on Earth, Kodiak is from a rival continent and is just as grumpy and prickly as you could ask for. These boys are given an immense amount of life in this story. Ambrose is sarcastic and brilliant, while Kodiak is gruff and strong. They were a joy to read and I did not feel limited on characters despite that there are very few (four would be a generous amount).

The story is also SO MUCH more than an enemies to lovers, grumpyƗsunshine romance (but it does both of those troups excellently as well). I was on the edge of the my seat while reading, and I found much of the story to be cryptic and intense. There were heartfelt moments that made me tear up, parts that made me (literally) laugh out loud, and I found it increasing difficult to put down at all.

Could not more highly recommend this hidden gem of a book!
