The Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo

4.0

Overall rating: 3.5 stars.

I was very excited about this book, as someone who loves historical fiction, reimagining of mythology, and stories of fox spirits, and I was a bit underwhelmed. Choo is an excellent writer, and I appreciated her two narrative voices. However, the plot moves rather slowly and it took some time for me to be drawn in. Furthermore, I found the climax and plot resolutions to not be as satisfactory as I would have liked—perhaps because I was hoping for the characters to be better developed and have more sustenance, such that I could deeply feel for there. However, it was nevertheless a solid read, especially for those interested in a new take on fox spirits.
