Another book by Konstantinos Theotokis finished in 2022 titled in English translation something like Put it Face Down and Other Stories. After reading two novelas and this selection of a few short stories by Konstantinos Theotokis, he has officially become one of my very favorite (if not yet my most favorite) Greek modern classic authors. He is brilliant! These short stories, horrific and shocking reminded me something of Edgar Allan's Poe The Cask of Amontillado. Very different thematically, but it gave me the chills of the same atmospheric mood. Once again, I wish there was a good English translation for the rest of the world to enjoy these works. Modern Classic Greek literature seems to be unjustly neglected by translators and by the world literature critics. It is wonderful that there is so much research, so much study, so many different translations of the ancient Greek classics, which I too love very much, but why stop there? Greek literature didn't end with Homer and the ancient dramatists; it has still so much to offer!
