The Haunt by SamiJo McQuiston

4.0

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a bookstore or chatting with a crew of sarcastic skeletons, The Haunt will be your new favorite escape!

Hecate Grimm, our brilliantly sassy witch-in-residence, runs The Haunt, a definitely haunted bookstore where the “staff” includes talking skeleton heads and a living, breathing… well, bookstore.

Hecate’s unapologetically done with the skeptics, but she’s got ancient charm, witchy attitude, and a snark that’ll have you laughing out loud!

Her bookstore’s history dates back to 281 BCE, and she’s inherited both the store and its rather opinionated former owners.

The supernatural details are quirky and hilarious—from grumbling ghosts to Edgar, the slightly grumpy “house manager” (aka the living building!). Even though the townspeople assume Hecate’s just a master ventriloquist or special effects genius, she’s out here living her witchy life unapologetically.

And then there’s the dash of romance with Massimo! Their chemistry crackles, especially in those final pages. Plus, did I mention the goth circus, vampires, and just a hint of drama to keep it all delightfully eerie? If you’re into dark humor, supernatural shenanigans, and a heroine who’ll take on the world (or at least, the clueless townsfolk), The Haunt is for you.

Here’s hoping for a sequel because I need more Hecate in my life!
