A Father's Fight: Taking on Alex Jones and Reclaiming the Truth About Sandy Hook by Robbie Parker

5.0

I can vividly remember where I was when the news of the Sandy Hook shooting broke. My two young daughters played mere feet away from me as I huddled at my computer getting updates with headphones on so they couldn't hear the news. I can remember seeing a picture of Emilie Parker pop up because she looked so much like my youngest daughter, Allison with her bright eyes and blonde hair.

Listening to A Father's Fight by Robert "Robbie" Parker brought me back to that day and all of the emotions I felt, and still feel to this day. To be fair, I don't know a lot about the individual families and the Parker's were no exception. I did know about the relentless stalking and harassment they endured because I remember seeing clips of the press conference and knew immediately that it would be used against them. What I didn't know was that Robbie was working in the hospital the children should have been transported to had not died inside their classrooms. I didn't know about the callous actions of the police officer or the details of how the families were told, also with little regard to their feelings. I didn't know about how their family coped in the weeks, months and years after. I'll be honest, every time he wrote/spoke about Madeline and Samantha the emotions welled because I am the mom of a Samantha too.

The memoir is made up of not just the below Sandy Hook and the direct aftermath, but also what the Parker's endured for years and years before they fought back in court and won. Alex Jones is a plague and I championed his takedown; profiting off hate and lies is disgusting no matter what but to attack a family who had just lost their young daughter is unconscionable.

Robbie Parker narrated the audiobook and I felt every single word. This was one of the hardest books I've listened to/read this year, but also one of the most profoundly impactful too. I highly recommend it.
