Wilder Girls by Rory Power.
A sapphic horror | dystopian novel from 2019 that has honestly been sitting on my shelf waiting to be read since it was released.
Like many others I got this book because of its gorgeous cover and when I finally picked up the book I was disappointed by the story.

The story follows Hetty at her boarding school for girls that has been taken over by a deadly disease they call the Tox.
|| reading this after covid might have made it all the more real and scary FYI ||
The girls of the school have slowly learned to survive along side the Tox on their remote island but soon they learn that things are never as they seem here.

The story had a slight romantic aspect to it that I would have loved to see expanded on so much more.

The romance between Hetty and Reece would have been wonderful with a little more time exploring it. Taking the time in the story to show more of the budding romance before it was shoved in our faces.

My favourite character was Byatt because she felt the most developed we learned about her more then we learned about Hetty. When she was away we saw more about her, developed ideas and thoughts about her and the reason she does the things she does.

The only thing I really didn't like about this book was the ending. I'm not someone who can handle the ... ending. I like being told what happened and how it ended I don't enjoy books that are open ended for everyone else to make decisions about how it ended.
Another thing I didn't like was Hetty at the end.
She talked alot about people being on the girls side or against them but then she showed she was never on the girls side either. She was there for herself and her friends only in the end.
She didn't care about anyone else just like headmistress.

All in all the book was 3.75 star read.
