Pass Interference by Emerson Beckett, Rheland Richmond

3.0

First of all, I would like to clarify that there are probably some SPOILERS in the review, so please pay attention to that, because the last thing I want is to ruin the story for anyone.

Having said that, I want to add that it is the first time that it happens to me that I review a book and I give it less than 5 or 4 stars, so it is quite difficult for me to write it, and I do not know how to do it without revealing some details that could be considered as SPOILERS, as I mentioned before.

[b:Pass Interference|61250047|Pass Interference|Rheland Richmond|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1660935442l/61250047._SY75_.jpg|96568928] generated a series of mixed emotions in me, because on the one hand I DID like it, and on the other... Well, let's say NOT SO MUCH. Why I didn't like it comes down to two main reasons: First, I felt it was more of a continuation of the first book in the series (The Quarterback Keeper, this one I did like it). I mean, 60% of the book is about Marcus and Aiden, the rest is about Alex and Christian and their wedding, and while I love that I get to know about their life and that they keep showing up, because it's something that makes them more real, I think it was too much. I mean, we completely read everything about their wedding, it was a central part of this book, and instead we just read in passing about Marcus and Aiden's quick wedding in Las Vegas, like it wasn't important. And although later we have a bonus (apart from the book) where it tells about their wedding, shouldn't it have been the other way around? Because in THIS book I wanted to know more about AIDEN AND MARCUS.

The second reason is: I DON'T UNDERSTAND MARCUS. I don't understand him. I mean, I can understand that he was young when he decided to leave Aiden. That he was confused and misguided by his agent. But to leave such a person after 3 years of dating without even a word? Hurt someone you supposedly love in that way? To me, that's being a coward, no matter what age. But hey, let's go back to him being young and confused. Does that justify letting 10 years go by? And here comes the other thing that I don't understand about him and what BOTHERED ME THE MOST. We see Marcus regretting over and over again for his actions, we see him saying that he misses Aiden, that he still loves him etc etc. Over and over again. But he doesn't do anything to get him back and spends his time flirting and hooking up (in fact, he flirts with another man in front of Alex, Aiden's brother, when he is already in Portland following his plan to win Aiden back. This happens in book 1). But then, in one of those wails, he realizes that he has to start doing something, that he has to stop wasting time, and he decides and swears to himself that he is going to win him back. Then we meet him at a sporting event where he gets drunk and ends up talking to a reporter with whom he has a certain friendship, the same reporter who chapters ago he didn't even want to get close to because he knew she wanted more than an interview. But hey, back to the event. He drunkenly ends up telling her about Aiden, and she ends up taking him to his house due to his drunken state. Next thing we know, they GOT MARRIED. WTH?! Wasn't he sworn that he was going to do whatever he could to get Aiden back just a few page before? He hadn't just confessed to her that he loved someone else? How come he ends up married to her? We don't have a good explanation for why they got married, just that they did, that he tries to make it work but it doesn't, he's still in love with Aiden. Did she take advantage when he was drunk and that's why it turns out that now they also have a son and that's why they end married? Or how the h*ck did they end up together? Because I really don't understand how you tell someone you love another man and next you end up married to her.
And finally, once divorced, do you let more years go by to get your love back? Excuse me, but if I were Aiden, I'd let you wait another ten years.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go on so long, but I needed to get it out of the way. It really bothered me because I love reading and leaving good reviews even if I can't say I love THE book. But I always try to write something positive cause the authors deserve it and it's because of that that writing this review was quite painful to me.

I was given an advanced copyand voluntarily wrote a review.
