I absolutely love R. F. Kuang's writing. I had been waiting for this book to be released and once I had it in my hand, I couldn't put it down.

I had never really understood what an "unreliable narrator" was, but I think June'  character explained it perfectly to me. She was so unlikable, too, but not in an unbelievable way. Because we all know someone like her.

The ending wasn't what I expected it to be, especially because of the events that happened directly before, but I do believe it's the most believable. People like June don't just change. She managed to white-girl-justify everything she did and fully convinced herself she was the victim. And we all know people like that, too.

I will forever read Kuang's writing. I had placed this book on a pedestal of expectatio  because of Babel, and it more than earned its place there.
