Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

4.0

Along with Stephen King and Gillian Flynn, Kristin Hannah is one of my favorite authors. (I know. Weird, right?)

I enjoyed this book and, like her others, was completely engrossed and devoured it. Kristin has a way of writing that just sucks me in.

I will say this one had a few cliches I rolled my eyes at, some recurring phrases and patterns of speech that annoyed me, and I just flat-out did not like Tully Hart. She was selfish, and bullheaded, and frankly, a pain in the ass. I get that she “got” all that by the end of the book, but that doesn’t change the fact that she was an asshole through 95% of the story. Maybe that’s the point—not to have perfect characters that are always likable.

I will say this: the end made me ugly cry so hard that I had to take my reading glasses off. This is the 2nd of Hannah’s books to do so; The Great Alone also had me sobbing in big, hiccupy gasps at the end.

All in all, I liked this. I’m not sorry I read it. But damn, Tully made me mad.
