I tried to read this last year, as Sword of Kaigen is one of my all time favourites, and had to DNF it. I presumed it was just the wrong time for me. I gave it another go and I didn’t feel the need to DNF, but it didn’t come close to SoK for me.

Nevertheless, I really loved the storyline. It’s nothing original in this day and age really, there are a lot of books about women defying the odds set out by men, but the author made it as original as possible. I think this will really work for a lot of people and I know it’s being raved about online, it’s just not necessarily a new favourite of mine.
