Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier
5.0
This is it, practically the perfect Spooky October read!
First, it's by Jennifer Hillier - enough said. Second, it takes place in an amusement park called Wonderland (hence the title). Third, Wonderland has a horror exhibit called Elm Street, in which there is the Clown Museum. And UNDER the clown museum there is some disturbing business afoot!
Police officer Vanessa Castro (note the name, Little Secrets fans!) has relocated from the Seattle PD to the post of deputy chief of Seaside PD.
When cases of dead bodies and missing teenage boys start collecting at Wonderland, Vanessa has to investigate how they connect. And just so happens her daughter Ava will be working at Wonderland for the summer.
Some really great park lore is created here, from the creepy head of security Glenn Hovey and cougar CEO Bianca Bishop, to the legacy of abusive founder Jack Shaw. Not to mention the urban myth tunnel system under the Clown Museum.
You can't not get wrapped up in this location and the players. Vanessa, herself, has some complex secrets and history. Private investigator friend Jerry Isaac also makes an appearance, for fans of Creep and Freak! I hope to see more of many of these characters in future Hillier books.
This book is unfortunately difficult to find in print format, but widely available as an eBook. Recommended!
