These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan
5.0
4.5 stars!
What a rollercoaster of emotions!!!
I didn't expect to like this so much. When I see love triangle, I usually run the other way, 'cause most of the time I can't stand this trope. But I was still very much intrigued and in the mood for a story like this ... and what can I say: I wasn't annoyed. I was even kinda feeling both sides, but leaning more towards one early on (and I'm counting on book 2 to deliver!!). I was interested from the beginning, but feeling okay about the first male MC. When the second one came along, I was starting to get ACOTAR vibes and thought: oh no, please, just don’t!! (Oh, I looove ACOTAR, but it just felt like it was going too much into the same direction) However, as the story progressed I got more and more invested in the characters and suddenly I didn’t mind the similarities at all. It actually started to feel very much like its own thing, I kept turning the pages and couldn’t get through them fast enough. By the end I felt like yelling at Brie, because of how oblivious she was of certain things, and the decisions she was making. And then… that ending!! All of a sudden it's over and now I’m left waiting for a year until the sequel comes out.
It's been a while since a YA book sucked me in like this! Even though I saw most of the plot twists coming, every chapter left me wanting more. Is These Hollow Vows the best book ever? No! But, boy, did it make me feel things. Book 2 will be my most anticipated 2022 YA fantasy for sure!!
