Commonwealth by Ann Patchett
5.0
My first Anne Patchett book and I almost don’t want to read another for fear of spoiling how much I love her. This book was beautifully written and I haven’t stopped thinking about it in the days since I’ve finished it. A book about children of Divorce, and how a blended family functions from childhood right through until old age. I’m sure this is a book that will hit close to home for many.
I was able to reflect back on the childhood memories with the characters as if I really had first witnessed them 30 years ago, and not just read it for the first time the day before. Patchett is incredible at rolling the reader through time in a way that always made perfect sense, and invisibly filled in the unmentioned decades, never leaving me to question anything.
I think I have to say this is my favourite family saga book ever, and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre. this is one I will definitely be rereading down the road.
