No Man's Land by Courtney W. Dixon
4.0
Another great series coming to an end. Sometimes I wish they would go on and on and on because it's hard to say goodbye when you love the characters so much.
I think this one was a little harder to read, not just because it was the last one, but because of how hard it was for Levi to survive his childhood. I can't even imagine what it was like for him to have a father like his. That the person who is supposed to love you more and protect you from everything bad that can hurt you, is who you have to protect yourself from... No, it's impossible to imagine. And yet, somehow, he managed to escape and survive. Not without scars, deep scars, but with such a superior mind and intelligence that he was able to change his life. Mature for his age, just starting college he met who he wants to be the man who shares his life, only this man didn't know it yet. But Levi was patient and tenacious, and little by little he was getting under the skin of his Mr Carter's.
Ashton had his own baggage. Not as hard and painful as Levi's, obviously, but even so, his divorce with his cheating ex-husband left scars on him that hadn't healed yet. He felt attracted to Levi from the moment he met him, but not only was there a significant age difference between them, but Levi was still a minor and a student at the university where he worked as a student counselor. So for him, that attraction was something he had to ignore, or better yet, get over. But once Levi turned 18 and he began to subtly seduce him, Ashton found it increasingly difficult to deny it. Until he stopped doing it. Levi not only turned him on, but also "woke him up", brought him out of that lethargy he had been living in since his divorce and made him want to start enjoying life again.
Their relationship is beautiful. Their connection runs deep, and Levi is finally safe and secure (outside of his found family), accepted and loved despite everything he had to do to survive and despite some things that happened that endangered what they were building, in the end they only served to unite them more.
I was given an advanced copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
