Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry by Joya Goffney
5.0
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Holy fucking shit I loved this so much. This is the first romcom I’ve ever given 5 stars to and it deserves every one. I cried twice, and yet I was smiling at so much of this book that just looking at it makes me happy. Quinn was such a raw, relatable main character, Carter was an amazing love interest, and I loved Livvie and Auden and their friendships with Quinn. Like seriously I’m so weak for ride-or-die female friendships and Livvie and Quinn made me soooooo happy.
I was a big fan of the different family dynamics in this (we get an insight into Quinn’s, Carters, Livvies and Audens families) and I love how they were all different but none were portrayed in a bad light.
This book discusses anti-black racism a lot, and as a white person it was super insightful and I am so glad I’ve read this.
Reading about Quinn’s journey and seeing her learn to face her fears, and learning that you don’t have to do it alone was so healing for me and I’m so glad that she had such a good support system in place.
This definitely makes Joya Goffney an auto-buy author for me and I cannot wait to read her other books
