Sizzle Reel by Carlyn Greenwald
3.0
I read a handful of novels tackling gender, identity, and self-discovery and that's the main reason why I requested for a review copy of this one. (second reason is because I'm in love with the cover & it screams chaotic sapphics)
But... I feel like the storyline was underdeveloped. The exploration of Luna Roth's identity as a late-bloomer bisexual felt dragging and I was not the biggest fan of how she handled things when it got messy.
I love reading about adults trying to survive in a cutthroat working environment but I feel like the main factor why I didn't enjoy the discussion about Luna's career is that I have no idea about the technicalities they're talking in the book. Cinematography techniques, camera settings, etc. - if these are your jam, then I think you'll vibe with this book.
Another thing is, I had this feeling about the twist with Luna's romantic affiliations but the execution of how things turned out in the end felt too convenient in a way that I found myself dragging to read the last few chapters.
I also read posts from queer reviewers voicing out how some descriptions were misleading & I highly suggest for you to check those reviews as well.
Overall, I started this book with high hopes that it'll be my next favorite sapphic read yet sadly, it didn't turn that way.
RATING: 3stars
