Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall
5.0
This is an amazing book! McDougall casts a new light on one of the oldest sports in human history: running. Starting from a very simple quest to find out why so many runners, such as himself, end up injured after a while, the narrative explodes with information on an ancient tribe of runners in Mexico called the Tarahumara, tips on how to improve your running abilities, research done on running from such diverse fields as injury prevention and evolutionary biology, philosophical musings on running and the character of great runners past and present, and a ripping good yarn about a "pick-up match" between the best ultra distance runners in America and the best Tarahumara runners. McDougall comes to the conclusion that, aside from a few practical tips on running shoes and training, there is one thing that all great runners must have: they must LOVE to run, as though they truly were born to run. I loved this book so much, that I feel that I must learn how to become a better runner myself. And if you don't feel the same way after reading this book, I feel mighty sorry for you.
