A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

I sincerely do not know how to start off this review.
I'd like to make it very clear from the start that I absolutely LOVED this book, like so much I'm gonna keep glancing at it over the next couple of days until I start with another one.
A Court of Wings and Ruin was an excellent "ending" to this former trilogy, I'm stammering because idk how to talk about it without losing it again.

It's very clear to me that after ACOMAF, Sarah J. Mass knew what her audience wanted, and she delivered. None of that story-building bullshit that all authors do, not at all, she knew that what we wanted from this book was character development and just to see our favorite characters interacting with one another, so she DELIVERED!
I had such a good, fun, excellent time reading ACOWAR, that I honestly do not care for your negative opinions about the story and the plot, I just simply do not care.
SJM gave me everything I could have ever wanted from this book, conversations between my favorite characters, interactions that were absolute gold, she gave me drama, she gave me sex (though in reduced quantities and I truly appreciate that), she gave us multiple battles and an ultimate war that I didn't exactly have the best time imagining it all in my head, but I didn't care cause I loved what I was reading.
That is why I appreciate SJM as a writer, because she knew what we wanted and she delivered and I'll always be grateful to her for doing that.

Rhysand was a gem (nothing surprising honestly, love him), Feyre improved a lot and I actually very much liked her in this book, Mor got some more welcome development which I liked even though I didn't really feel anything about the reveal that she's more into women than men, idk what that says about me but here it is.
Azriel was criminally underused in this book, yes we got a couple nice scenes with him but I still feel like he needs to be more involved in the emotional and talking parts of these books, rather than just in the battle and fight scenes, also can he be Bisexual too? Thanks SJM!
Elaine shined at the couple of chapters, don't have much to say about her presence in most of the book, and I'll be talking about her actions later on in the review.
Cassian in this book... I just fell even more in love with Cassian, SJM wrote a very good character in him and I love that she's not changing or overdoing anything, his scenes, actions and everything about him feels organic and simply perfect.
Nesta, on the other hand.. I feel like SJM wrote Nesta with such an edge, that It's very hard to feel anything about her? How do I explain this.. Nesta is way too severe, intense with jagged edges.
I like her as a character, she's a boss ass bitch, but she needs some softening of the edges in order for us to actually enjoy her more in this series.
The High Lords... Oh my god, I absolutely loved ALL of them and how they talked, how they were represented, their personalities (I wanna live in the Dawn Court, thank you very much). They were a wonderful addition to the series, and I genuinely hope that we see more of them in the next books.

The last couple of chapters were absolutely crazy and I say that in the best way possible.
The final battle was very well-written, I enjoyed the descriptions of the distinct armies banding together, and when Prince Drakon and Myriam showed up with Vassa and Lucien and NESTA'S DADDY I felt such intense relief and I actually started crying right there at the spot.
The following scenes of Feyre and Amren going to the Cauldron with the freaking WEAVER as a distraction was genius, Bryaxis and the Carver and the Weaver joining the war was genius on its own, and although I was rather confused by what had happened with Feyre, Amren and the cauldron, I actually really loved how the next couple of scenes played out.
Elaine being the one to deliver the killing blow with truth-teller or whatever It's called was shocking! And Nesta just freaking remove Hybern's head from his body was EVERYTHING!!

Now onto the tough stuff, Amren sacrificing herself to destroy Hybern and save her family was just marvelous, meanwhile Rhysand sacrificing himself and giving all of his being to Feyre to save the world was just... Heartbreaking to me, like I genuinely cried and sobbed until my eyes got blurry and I couldn't read anymore. SO yeah, I squealed with joy and happiness after he was brought back to life with the help of the High Lords and TAMLIN!
Although I really loved these scenes, I do have a problem with them.. SJM clearly did not want to kill off anybody, but doing the fake deaths really made it feel a bit irritating and underwhelming to me. Rhysand I get, he just simply could not die, but Amren's sacrifice felt fake and underwhelming because she was brought back to life just like that, I just think that someone should've stayed dead, cause it doesn't make sense to go through such a big war without any big casualties. That's all.

I loved ACOMAF, I loved ACOWAR, and if ACOFAS just has these people I love interacting and talking and nothing more than that, then I will accept and love it lol
